Mother and Son 2

This art is based on the appearance and lifestyle of several tribes in India. The mother is holding her son and grinding grains on a stone mill by hand. It is common with several Indian tribal women to not wear a bodice but wear lots of jewels. This has been evident in the sculptures and art found from the Maurya, Sunga and Gupta periods. The women in the frame is wearing a gold ‘Surga Valesar’ - a hair pin, earrings, large nosepin, several necklaces, pendants, armlet called ‘Bajuband’, waistband called ‘Kamarband’, anklets and bangles. Her son is wearing a small turban, earrings and armlets. The facial features are produced in the style of Indian Miniature paintings.
