Meena Kumari

Meena Kumari is known by several other names - ‘The Tragedy Queen’, ‘Female Guru Dutt’ and ‘Cinderella of Indian Cinema’. Born in 1933, Mahjabeen Bano was named Baby Meena on the set of Ek Hi Bhool (1940). She has acted in a dozen films as a child artist. Her films with the lead role are Baiju Bawra, Parineeta, Ek Hi Raasta, Mem Sahib, Naya Andaz and Halaku. She is critically appreciated for her role as Choti Bahu in Sahib Biwi Aur Gulam. This role is considered as a trace of the actor’s real life. Her other challenging roles were in Aarti, Dil Ek Mandir, Kaajal, Phool Aur Patthar, Baharon Ki Manzil and Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai. Pakeezah, her last film, stands out among all. The sentimental beauty left for heavens on 31st March 1972.
